Concepts & Drills
Why Drills?
Drills are incredibly important in the shared center system for dance for several reasons:
- *Muscle Memory*: Repeated practice helps engrain movements into muscle memory, making them more automatic and fluid during actual performance. In the system we say “The Illusion of Always”
- *Coordination*: Drills help improve coordination between partners. By practicing specific movements repeatedly, dancers learn to anticipate each other’s actions and react appropriately.
- *Strength and Endurance*: Regular drills build the necessary strength and endurance to maintain the shared center, which is crucial for performing complex and extended routines.
- *Precision*: Drills allow dancers to focus on the precision of their movements, ensuring that each action is executed correctly and consistently.
- *Confidence*: Repetition builds confidence in both individual and partnered movements, reducing hesitation and increasing the overall quality of the performance.
- *Problem-Solving*: Drills provide an opportunity to identify and correct any issues in technique or coordination, allowing for continuous improvement.
- *Safety*: Practicing drills ensures that movements are performed safely, reducing the risk of injury for both partners. These drills are essential for mastering the shared center system and achieving a seamless, harmonious dance partnership.
